History of the 25th Infantry:
The division was activated on October 1st, 1941 in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii during World War II. The infantry fought in operations during the Pacific War, Korean War, Vietnam War, Post-Cold War era, and currently in the Afghanistan War. The division is nicknamed "Tropic Lightning" and its symbol was adopted in 1943. Infantry Timeline: In April 1966, the 1st Brigade was assigned for missions in Vietnam. They arrived in Vietnam on a ship called the Vung Tau in Saigon on April 28th under the command of Nelson M. Walker. The battalion was on the ground in Vietnam on April 30th, 1966 and remained in active combat for four years. They were known as the “Battle Dragons’.
