Michael Thomas Finch was born on December 9th, 1946 in Plain, Mississippi (modern day Richland) just south of the state's capital, Jackson, MS. He is the son of Donald Norman and Audrey M. Finch and older brother of Barney Finch. Growing up he attended what is now known as Richland High School and was a member of the school's band. He was said to be proficient at playing the trumpet. In addition to band, Michael played recreational football and baseball under the coaching of his father. After graduating high school, Michael attended Hinds Community College in Raymond, MS and due to interest in hands on, active learning he withdrew from the learning institute after a year. Michael worked on many municipal jobs until he enlisted into U.S. Army. Michael like most of his fellow soldiers was enlisted into the Vietnam War via draft notice. Although the notice of deployment was not an exciting moment for him and his family, he began his tour in Southeast Asia on June 11th, 1967 |
